Analysis and Design

There is often a need to meet energy production schedules precisely, with penalties for those that fail to meet a predefined schedule. The parameters for predefined schedules vary. In some cases a producer (or consumer) may be required to meet a fixed 24-hour day ahead schedule. In other cases, the schedule may

be adjustable and the producer (or consumer) may be able to change the schedule at “market rates” as little as one hour ahead of the actua

l production (or consumption). This project addresses such a need under the assumption that the user needs to meet a nominal 5-minute schedule that can be adjusted one hour ahead of time. There are penalties for deviations that exceed certain deviation parameters. The schedule is met precisely because the user can use a (relatively small) battery system to meet the schedule.

The trickiest part of a battery system is sizing and locating the battery properly. A badly designed system in the wrong place or improperly used can increase a customer’s electric bills, not reduce them. We have proprietary software that allows us to locate, size and design the optimal battery system for customers based on actual need. We do this prior to the procurement and deployment of our battery systems. We can also provide this capability as a service for others that are considering or are owners of battery systems in operation. We also have the ability to perform detailed analysis of the operation of existing systems to offer ways of changing the operation and use to optimize their value.
